Julie Adams is a Sydney-based photographer with over 25 years of experience across portraiture, fashion, editorial, and advertising. Her career began in London in the late 1990s, where she worked with several of the UK’s leading publications before returning to Australia and establishing a reputation for her discerning eye and strong editorial sensibility.
She has photographed some of the most recognisable faces of our time, including Joel Edgerton, Rebel Wilson, Celeste Barber, Rosita Missoni, Sophia Loren, and Luca Zingaretti, with her work appearing in Vogue, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, and The Sydney Morning Herald among others. Commercially, she has worked with brands such as Qantas, Lancôme, Veuve Clicquot, Disney and Anthropologie — commissioned for her depth of experience and her ability to bring fresh perspective to high-profile campaigns.
Julie’s personal projects are shaped by her intuitive sense of what is meaningful. She turns her lens toward the more intimate, unspoken narratives of womanhood, identity, and self-expression. Her 2009 portrait exhibition The Beauty of Italian Women was praised for its honest, intimate portrayal of Italian women, capturing both their individuality and inherent luminosity. In Beach Series (2019), she turned her focus to Australian beach culture, documenting candid moments that reflect her deep connection to the coast and its social fabric. Julie is also the author of Grace Mothers – Letters to Our Children (2019), co-authored with Georgie Abay, and This Is Me (2020), a portrait and interview series that honours the voices of Australian women in conversations around body image.
Julie continues to partner with major brands and on select projects that are creatively aligned and purpose-driven.
